Part1 – Coperate Social Responsibilities

Tesco Hypermarket has carried out a campaign  to encourage customers to donate Clubcard points accrued for environmentally friendly behaviour to help fund a rainforest conservation initiative.Customers are invited to donate Green Clubcard points earned for doing things like reusing carrier bags and recycling printer ink cartridges or cans in store, to the programme. Each point is worth 1p.The supermarket is partnering with the Royal Society of Protection of Birds (RSPB) in what it claims is an “entirely new way to approach funding CSR programmes”.The partnership hopes to raise £1m in the first year and also increase awareness of deforestation and the need for conservation work around the world to retail rainforests.Tesco is also donating £75,000 from the sale of its latest range of reusable bags that will be branded with Together For Trees imagery.David North, Tesco UK corporate affairs director, says: “Climate change will only be tackled if ordinary people feel the battle can be won and believe they can play a part.  That’s why this partnership is so exciting.  Working hand-in-hand with the RSPB we can give our customers the confidence to make a big difference through millions of individual actions: re-using carrier bags rather than taking new ones and then donating the Green Clubcard Points they earn to Together for Trees.”To launch the initiative, Tesco and RSPB are launching a competition to find a “Rainforest Reporter” to travel to a rainforest conservation project with explorer Ed Stafford and cover the project. The CSR initiative follows Tesco’s launch of the Halo Initiative, a not for profit organisation the supermarket set up to raise funds for women’s health charities through the sale of the Halo brand of feminine care products launched earlier this month.

Part2- Business Sustainability

Tesco Hypermarket has provided a variety of facilities such as trolley. By using trolley, it is convenient for customers to bring their groceries around without having to carry it. Besides that, weighing machine is provided for customer to get their groceries weighed and to check the price. Classification of food according to their code is one of the characteristic of the Tesco Hypermarket. Customer can find whatever they want by following the food code. Other than that, Tesco also provides scanning machine which helps the customer to scan the product and know the price of the product on the spot. Tesco Hypermart also have locker services for their customer. Customer who carries along heavy bag or shopping bags with them and wants to shop without worrying and carrying too many bags they can use this services.

The type of  business that Tesco Hypermarket is currently involved in is wholesale. The definition of wholesale is selling goods in large quantities to be retailed by others. Tesco Hypermarket is originally a UK focused grocery retailer. Then, it has increased its diversity of area into the retailing of books, clothing, electronics, furniture, petrol and software; financial services, Telecom and internet services.

Social factor- Tesco Hypermarket has increased the amount of nonfood item available for sale because the current trend of British customer have moved towards from 'onestop' to 'bulk' shopping. UK retailers start focusing on added value products and services due to demographic changes like female workers, aging population and a decline in home meal preparation. Lastly, Tesco Hypermarket is also adapting its product mix to accommodate an increased demand of organic products.
Technological factor- Tesco Hypermarket has been utilizing the internet. For example, Tesco Hypermarket have prioritize on the use of online shopping forum Tesco direct and provide a delivery service through their very own website www.tesco.com. This had helped in the convenience in shopping for a large segment of people.

Tesco Hypermarket can invest in sustainability and reward employee efforts. Tesco Hypermarket can compensate employees for the time they spend on sustainability efforts. As employee is the main resource of a wholesale company so they should be appreciated and given bonus for their hard work.

QUESTION 1

The internal controls placed within the hypermarket to ensure the safety of its patrons as well as to monitor its inventory movement are having security guards. Guards have to make sure that patrons are safe and protected in the supermarket. The management should also place security guards in the parking lot to prevent any crime from occurring. Customers’ safety should always be the priority instead of gaining profits. This is because they are the ones that help the management to maximize the profits of a hypermarket.

Besides that, hypermarkets must provide shop assistants. Shop assistants job is to guide the customers, provide information to the customers about the products; collect payment for the goods bought and display merchandise.  By maintaining good customer service skills, consumers will have a better shopping experience. Shop assistants should make sure that they maintain proper communication skills and be honest to the customers. Therefore, shop assistants play a vital role in a hypermarket.

Furthermore, there have to be sensors in the hypermarket. In order to avoid shoplifting problems, the management has to be wise and put up sensors at the entrances and exits of supermarkets to trigger alarm sounds.  Antitheft systems should be used widely, so that they are able to catch those who are stealing. Supermarkets have to increase their security measures by paying close attention to this issue and by adapting their systems to new shoplifting methods.  By maintaining safety precautions, shoplifters can be prevented.

One of the popular methods used is the installation of camera system. Camera surveillance with high resolution is used to capture all details that are happening in the hypermarket. Retail security officers are incharged to monitor the CCTV system carefully and being alert. Installing cameras at the cash counters to supervise the cashier’s actions should also be practiced in order to avoid any wrongdoings during the payment process. By this way, patrons’ safety is assured and boosts the hypermarket’s profits.

In addition, additional security is required at the entrance and exits point. Retailers should appoint extra staffs to keep an eye of suspicious people and their actions. Essential roles of the additional staffs are to prevent crime and theft issues.  For example, they are required to verify the receipt of the patrons once they are about to leave the store. Fully trained workers are available to deal with thieves and help the management with security resources.

QUESTION 2

Ways that Tesco can contribute positively to non-profit organizations are by donating cash. The company should set up a charity trust in order to show their support to local community charities. For instance, Tesco’s charity fund must exhibit their initiative in offering one-off donations to charity homes and not for profit organizations for the welfare of children, elderly people and people with disabilities. Organization should encourage their employees’ to support this cause. Employees’ may apply to the Tesco’s charity fund to play a part in helping the needy ones.

Besides that, Tesco can provide a better interest to non-profit organizations through product donations rather than cash donations. For instance, Tesco as a large multinational grocery company sells food products. This company can proactively donate food to local nonprofit organization to be partly responsible to the well-being of the community. Non-perishable or fresh foods are example of items that can be donated. It is easier to be well connected to the community as well as educating their employees.

In addition, Tesco should organize a fundraiser event. A fundraiser event is a campaign whose main reason is to raise money for non-profit organization. The company must implement a program that attracts the attention of large groups of donors and also the involvement of their staffs. For example, free items can be donated for an auction by local businesses. Employees should join and help to gather money for the benefits of the community.

QUESTION 3

Important characteristics of quality information contained in financial statements are relevance. Relevance is useful information that will be used by decision makers. Relevant information must possess predictive value to allow decision makers to make prediction about the future. For example, companies will show their accounting information to stakeholders for decision making. If the relevant information reaches the expectations of the investor, then the net income of a company has confirmatory value for investors.

Besides that, comparability is also important in financial information. Users will be able to derive similarities and differences between the financial statements of an accounting period. The financial statement of a company must be consistent with other companies. By maintaining consistency throughout the entity, investors can compare information among companies. This is also to enable the users to analyze the performance of a company.

Understandability of the information in financial statements must be comprehended by users that have reasonable knowledge about accounting, business and economic activities. Users may have different ways of understanding information. Complex matters of accounting information and financial statements should be presented to the users that are having difficulties. These types of information should be prepared in such a way to provide relevance to the users about financial information.

Another characteristic that is essential to the users is completeness. Information contained in financial statements is only complete when relevant information is provided to the users. This is to help users to make financial decision making. Incomplete information may reduce the relevance and reliability of the financial statements as users are not presented to the whole view of the details. This can lead to misleading and incorrect decision making and thus not helpful to the users.

Prudence is a key accounting principle which makes sure that assets and income are not overstated and liabilities and expenses are not understated. For example, inventory is recorded at the lower cost rather than expected selling price.  This ensure profit on sale of inventory is realized when the actual sale takes place. However, prudence does not require management to deliberately overstate its liabilities and expenses or understate its assets and income. Prudence should eliminate bias from financial statements but its application should not reduce the reliability of the information.

Neutrality is information contained in the financial statements that must be free from bias. It should reflect a balanced view of the affairs of the company without attempting to present them in a favored light. For deliberate bias to occur is when circumstances and conditions cause management to intentionally misstate the financial statement. For example, when the managers of a company are provided bonus on the basis of reported profit. This tempt the management to adopt accounting policies that results in higher profits rather than those better reflect the company’s performance in line with GAAP.

ECONOMICS OF SUSTAINABILITY – TESCO HYPERMARKET CASE STUDY

QUESTION 1

Price ceiling
Price ceiling is basically a law of regulation stated by the government that it is illegal to sell a product lower than a given of specific level that allows  customers to purchase certain products such as sugar, cooking oil and chicken. Price ceiling is normally placed below the equilibrium point.

Price floor
Price floor is also a law or regulation made by the government that it is illegal to sell a product lower than its given price because they believe certain products are sold lower than the market price.

Substitute
Substitute is good that serves as a replacement towards other goods. Example such as Apple and Samsung, Starbucks and Coffee Bean, Nike and Adidas.

Quantity Demand and Quantity supply
Quantity demand is a term used in economics to describe a total amount of goods or services that are demanded at any given point in time. The quantity demanded depends on the price of a good or service in the marketplace , regardless of whether the  market is in equilibrium. The quantity demanded is determined at any given point along a demand curve in a price vs quantity plane.

Quantity supplied is also a term used in economics o describe the amount of goods or service that are supplied at a given market price. Graphically , the amount of goods or service supplied lies at any point along the supply curve in a price vs quantity plane. The rate at which the amount supplied changes in response to the changes in prices is called the price elasticity of supply.

QUESTION 2

The economic issue faced by TESCO Hypermarket is the rising prices of the same product but from different suppliers For example :
The biscuits are the same types of biscuits which are cream crackers but they are sold at different  prices because they are different brands. Therefore one cream cracker on the top is sold more expensive than the cream cracker on the bottom thus increasing the challenges of rising prices. Besides that food supplies such as chicken are also sold at a very high price although they chickens are not kept clean and is already old and spoilt. This shows that Tesco Hypermarket does not sell fresh chickens and also sell it at a very high price which is not fair and this causes inflationary pressures.

Futhermore, detergents are sold at a high price because the traders are selling it to Tesco at a very expensive price causing a rise in prices in detergents as well and also different brands of detergents are sold at different prices. For example Dynamo is sold at $22.00 and  Softlan is sold at $8.39.
Moreover, fruits like apples are sold at a very low prices because they are non organic whereas organic fruits are sold at very high prices. Therefore non organic fruits are not healthy to be consumed by the consumers and also causes a high demand for organic prices and Tesco increases the prices of the organic products too much.

In addition Tesco also increases their rice prices causing a major economic crisis faced by Tesco. For example, certain rice products such as Sunwhite. Their prices are too expensive compared to the other rice products such as Cap Gajah.

QUESTION 3

Tesco Hypermarket and Mydin Hypermarket are known to be the two largest competitive wholesalers in business world. Tesco is always compared with Mydin because the same products sold at Tesco is also sold at Mydin with a cheaper price. Therefore, people prefer to buy their things at Mydin compared to Tesco. This also shows that Mydin is Tesco’s heavy competitor. There are few ways to improve the competitiveness between Tesco and Mydin. Firstly, Tesco has to reduce the prices of their goods sold because its to expensive like, the same cream crackers are sold at different prices because they are from different suppliers. By this way Tesco can reduce its profit margin by maintaining low costs of operation. Besides that, consumers prefer to shop in Mydin because  Tesco sells food products such as chickens at a very higher price. Therefore, Mydin gains lots of income and earns profit compared to Tesco. On the other hand, Tesco should sell more fresh and clean food products. For example, wrap all the meat products and keep them in a refrigerator so that it will be fresh and clean because most of the food products such as meat and chickens are left open on the tray causing flies to sit on them. Thus, making the food products not fresh and unhealthy to eat. Futhermore, Mydin supplies more substitutes or complimentary products compared to Tesco. For example, if Mydin doesn’t have the particular biscuit brand they have alternative brands to replace them. Therefore, Tesco should supply more complimentary products so that people will still buy their product although they are from a different supplier or brand. They should always take into consideration customers feedback and their perceptions of the supermarket for them to improve their services.

English Reflective

As a teenager we are able to think critically and solve problems that we face in our daily life. This was crucial while I was doing my integrated assignment. I have to think out of the box for me to be able to complete the assignments. While doing business enterprise assignment I had think out of the box cause most of the questions is not from what we have learned in classroom but then they are general knowledge and we have to do more in detail researches about Tesco Hypermarket . Therefore, I have to think of how to gather the necessary sources and I have to gather information from Tesco official website and wiki. Besides that, this project requires a lot of knowledge from different academy or subject for me to able to answer and solve the questions. I got to read and master my foundation subjects so that I’m able to think and solve the questions for economics. Other than that, I got to be quick enough and think as fast as I could to solve the problems. For an example, my teammates were encountering difficulty in completing economics assingment so I had helped them by providing them relevant points and think of ways to find for the information. Moreover, we were lack of pictures to be post on our website and all I could think at the moment was to go to Tesco again and take pictures of the locker services, security guard and trolleys for our e-portfolio and I was happy that I could think for a solution as soon as possible. Even though it was my first time of being in a group to complete my assignment, I have learned and experienced thinking and problem solving skill throughout this project. I have learned to think and solve problems we encounter for our economics and business enterprise assignment. If I could think critically and solve problem when I’m still young, therefore I would help me when I’m grown up as it is easy for to think and solve my problems on my own without depending on others.

In this era, communication skills is a skill that each individual should have and mastered during their college life. Communication skills can be divided into verbally or non-verbally. While conducting researches about Tesco Hypermarket, I have to communicate with my teammates very often and english language were used as medium of language. I have struggled in the beginning as sometimes it’s hard for me to express things that i have thought of and it takes time for me to rephrases it into a good sentences that everyone can understand. I was facing a problem to speak english fluently as I speak my mother tongue at home. As before, I was shy to speak to others and was not comfortable with others and tend to be silent but since after the project I have build a good relationship with my teammates by possessing verbal and non-verbal communication skills.I have gained lots of knowledge and learned new phrases and build a good foundation of communication skill. This project has helped me to gain and learn to be a better person who possess good communication and able to speak with others confidently. In future it would not be a matter for me to be shy or start a conversation with someone and I could speak confidently issues that I think it’s right or wrong.

I agree that lifelong learning is something can be done throughout our whole life. I have realized that it does not matter whether a person goes to school to learn or gain knowledge but I can learn or gain knowledge anywhere at anytime. Besides that, learning something does not require age and in the process of growing old I keep on learn new things and this is called as lifelong learning. As I was carrying out the project, I have learned that age does not matter and we suppose not to stop gaining knowledge just because we are older than others. I’m 22 years this year and that does not stop me from acknowledging myself with new things such as I have learned what are the corporate social responsibility of Tesco for community. I have got to know that Tesco Hypermarket has carried out a campaign to encourage customers to donate Clubcard points accrued for environmentally friendly behaviour to help fund a rain forest conservation initiative. This is something new I have learned and come across. Besides that, I also have experienced and gain knowledge while doing the assignments. I was assigned to create and design a website for our project where we have to put in our informations gathered at the end of this assignment. Creating a website is something new and I’m was not someone who’s good at information technology(IT). Therefore, I have struggled to create the website but then I’m grateful that they have videos on “youtube as on how to create a website. This proves me that lifelong learning is something each individual will face in their daily life. I will keep on gain knowledge and keep myself updated with new things as in now and future. This would help me to learn new things and be a knowledgeable person in future as I progress myself to learn and gain things in my daily life till the I die.

KOKILA WANI
As a regular Tesco customer I was initially skeptical regarding this visit, I mean what could I learn about it that I didn’t already know? As the day progressed on I quickly became aware of how quickly I had judged this project. It was not an experience that only aimed to teach us the ways in which we can implement our classroom activities in the real world, but also the value of working cooperatively with my peers. Our class environment differs greatly from that of the real world, the discrepancy lies in the fact that we are not in control of the problems we face in the real world. Moreover how we react to these difficulties and in turn come up with solutions cannot be learnt by sitting in the classroom alone and must be acquired through first hand exposure. So maybe I did not realize it at the time, but looking retrospectively I have gained many skills that will carry on with me throughout life, skills such as effective and efficient decision making leading and taking control of a situation and being patient even if your limits are pushed.

One of the important attributes I gained from the Taylors Graduate Capabilities is communication skills. More often than not I find myself with endless things to say, endless questions to ask, but very little patience to actually allow a person to answer them. This proved to be a problem when it came to making decisions, where I and my peer got into a disagreement about whether the work should be equally distributed amongst us individually or whether we should split into teams. It came to a point where I realized that we both were not hearing each other out and we were instead letting our ego get the best of us in a situation where there was very little room and time for disagreement. A situation in which it was imperative that we come to a compromise and fast. So both of us calmed down and took the time to listen, acknowledge and understand where the other was coming from and finally we were able to reach a decision together. Although we did not agree on everything we were able to effectively communicate our point of view and decide on a rational plan of action. This experience taught me that communication is a two way street, where both speaking and listening are essential for it to be effective.

Moreover, from this visit to Tesco I developed and expanded my thinking and problem solving skills from the Taylors Graduate Capabilities. We often think that thinking and problem solving skills are things that are more valued in the classroom and less so in the real world, but this experience certainly taught me how wrong that perception was and I came to learn this in the most unusual way. During my visit I had to question the Tesco staff regarding the facilities provided by the store, although I spoke in a very polite manner I did not receive the same treatment back. But instead of getting angry, I calmed myself down and persisted on with a smile, and soon enough he was also smiling. Although this at the time did not appear to be an ideal thinking and problem solving situation, when I reflected back I realized that, the outcome of that situation was highly dependent on how I had thought through and decided to approach this problem. In spite of being confronted with such a tough situation, I was able to react and deal with it in a very mature and grown up way, resulting in a very positive outcome.

Probably one of the greatest qualities I gained from this experience was intrapersonal skills form the Taylors Graduate Capabilities. Before this experience, I found it very difficult to stay calm and balanced in stressful situations, I now know how to approach them without seeking advice from other people. After this visit I gained the confidence to seek answers from within myself, instead of depending on other people for a solution. Furthermore I definitely gained more patience and understanding by interacting not only with my group members but also those in the general public. Not only was this visit important in establishing a relationship with other people, but also one with myself.
I have learnt so many valuable lessons from this trip. I am now more aware of the ins and outs of Tesco, how they go about their daily business routine and how they strategise their products to promote marketing and sales. This experience allowed me to not only apply the theories and principles I learnt in the classroom but also expand my personal skills, such as communicating in a professional and mature manner, controlling my temper and anger in situations that displease me, and respecting the opinion of others even if I do not agree with them. I truly appreciate and value what this experience has taught me, and I am very sure I will carry this with me throughout my life and apply it to situations in which a similar problem is encountered, and build upon the qualities and skills I have gained.

NUR AINA
I had visited Tesco for this integrated project. The aim of this integrated project is to provide us the knowledge of interpreting sustainability in various ways. The learning experience that I have gathered from this project is to maintain good relationship with my team members. As this project requires us to be in group of five members, I have learned that team work is a very important key to produce a high quality work. Each team member in my group did a really good job in contributing equal ideas and opinions in order for us to complete the project. We developed an increased level of bonding throughout this whole process. My team and I managed to solve few difficulties that we were facing. For instance, at the beginning we had some awkward moment as this was our first project as a team. Luckily, we managed to overcome it by acquiring time to get to know each other and knowing a bit of our backgrounds and experiences which was related to this task. I make sure that everyone was included in making decisions about how to proceed as a group. We even appointed a group leader to manage our timing for meetings and to check on us on our progress.

The Taylor’s Graduate Capabilities that I have gained in this whole process are communication skills, interpersonal skills and digital literacy. I have improved in my way of communication to other people better. Throughout this group task, I kept an open mind and had proper understanding of the project requirements. I used various ways to interact with different types of people in different situations. For example, when I was in Tesco, I was polite enough to ask questions to the staffs there regarding about this project. I portrayed proper body language, suitable usage of English language and good attitude when I communicate with my team members and the employees in Tesco. To be an effective team member, I practice active listening in group meetings and ask relevant questions if I am having any doubts to avoid any misinterpretations of information. Besides that, I have also obtained a good interpersonal skill. Interpersonal skills are the life skills that we use to interact with other people in daily life. Being assertive in my team is important to avoid any conflicts and to build good relationship among team members. My team does work systematically and we allocate different parts of the group project. I will ask my members to help me if I have any uncertainty about my part of the project. To prevent errors and mistakes to occur, I ensure that I listen and later on summarize in my own words about the conversation my team was having. This is to make sure that I deliver concise and clear product in the end. In addition, I got exposed to digital literacy skills. For this project, we were required to create a webpage. We had some difficulties in creating the webpage as we have never created one before. Fortunately, we managed to create the website using the help of the internet. We used the steps from the internet to create the layout of webpage and uploaded all the necessary elements. Through this way, I was able to acquire the skills to be creative and imaginative in creating the layout of webpage.

The learning experiences that I have benefited through this project will help me in future. For instance, the ability to communicate with others. Before this, I was a shy person and had a hard time to interact but after this project I managed to overcome my weakness. I contributed ideas and gave my opinions to the group.  Through teamwork, I can be more productive and deliver better results. My team members had share their unique knowledge and qualities which is really useful for me in the future. I had learned how to brainstorm and do researches before executing my tasks. This project has a combination of analytic and experiential learning which is a key to leadership skills. Good leaders are good listeners that hear others’ opinions and give their views in a way that is constructive. My leadership qualities have enhanced and this has enabled me to solve problems. Thus, in future I would be able to lead a group of people in achieving our goals. In the emerging world of digital, I have acquired the tech-savvy skills to communicate online and display my creativity. For example, in my future workplace, I would be able to attract clients without even interacting with them face-to-face. Online technology is an important tool for an organization to promote their businesses which will increase the profitability of a company. Therefore, visiting Tesco for this integrated project has been beneficial to me.

SHAVEENA
As a student we are able to think critically at any given point of time and as  for me this is very crucial when I was doing my integrated assignment because I had to think in many different ways to complete this assignment. While doing economics section for this assignment I had to do many things to obtain more information. For example I had to visit Tesco and gather all the information, take pictures of the products that are sold at Tesco and also asks the Tesco staff workers for  more information about Tesco . Therefore , through this I managed to obtain proper Communication skills because I had to interact with the  staffs to get more information about Tesco. Besides just interacting with the staffs only I also had to interact with my teammates to obtain more information for economics section. At first I had a slight difficulty in asking for more information because I felt that I was distracting them from their work but then I was finally able to communicate with them and ask them to help me out a little and I managed to complete my assignment and also because of this I managed to improve my communication skills because I’m now able to interact more with my teammates without having any difficulities. Moreover , I also helped my friends to complete this assignment like helping them to gather more information and I also helped my friends to design our own web for IT part of this assignment although at first we all had a hard time to design our own web because we have never created our own website before , we finally managed to create to our own website after we all helped each other by making more research on how to make a website and also by working together and helping out amongst teammates. Teamwork is very important especially in group information because we get to help out each other to get more information and solve the problems faced for the particular assignment and through this I managed to obtain a better interpersonal skills because I managed to work with my teammates without having any troubles with them and also be able to understand the team dynamics better. Therefore through this I also have learned that everybody should have interpersonal skills so that they can communicate better with their teammates and get their job done faster without any problems. We also divided our jobs so that it will get done faster and managed our time well so that we can get our work done without having any difficulties and also we helped each other although we  were assigned with different works because it’s a group project and like I said teamwork is very important.

In addition , in order for me to complete this whole assignment we had to create our own website to put in all our information about this integrated project. At the beginning I had a little problem creating the website because I have never created my own website before but after I did my research on how to create my own website I have managed to create a website where I can upload all the project information and through this I’ve realized that creating a website is really that hard because I have a lot of experience when it comes anything to do with IT because I’m always on these social networking websites and I know they are operated therefore I had some idea on how to create my own website. I realized that through this integrated project that Digital Literacy skills is very important that we all should have because it can help us in so many ways especially in things like this, creating a website and obtaining more information online about the information for this project and also interacting online with friends to make the work easier and faster.

In conclusion , I’ve learned that we require a lot of skills to get something done for example like this integrated project where I had to use communication skills to interact with my teammates and also with the staffs of Tesco and through this now I know that communication skills is very important in our daily lives because we get to interact with other people comfortably without being a afraid. I also learned that working with your teammates is very important especially when it comes to group projects. We have to work together in order to get our job done without having any problems with each other and  also learn how to solve any problem at any give point of time without having any arguments that will cost any discomfort towards the other teammates and therefore through this I’ve learned that interpersonal and problem solving skills is very important. Finally I’ve also learned that Digital Literacy skills is very important skill that we all have to know because its very useful in our daily lives. We get to obtain so many information and do so many things like creating a new website therefore this skill is a very important skill.

VAYNISHA

This is is my first time going to Tesco with my friends who are also my group member. This is a memorable and interesting as we get to go to Tesco to survey stuff there and do our project together. In this intergrated group project, I get to learn that working as a group as not easy because when we first reached there, we are confused with what and where should we start first. Then, I suggest to my friend that we can actually divide works among us as in some of us can go around and check out what all the things that can be written as answer into the paper. My group member and I actually took around 2 to 3 hours to survey and write down what we have seen and what we have surveyed on the paper. In this project, I have learned that everyone in this group is equal important so that if they have opinion towards some question, they should voice it out so that we can save time and have more different answers. Besides that, it amazes me to know that Tesco Hypermarket actually sells different kind of groceries ranging from food to household electronics and they even sell pet food too. Facilities are provided to customer to make it easier and more convenient to shop. Example like weighing machine is easy for customer to know how heavy is their stuff. They also provide trolley for customer to avoid any inconvenient. Customers can bring their stuff around without having to carry all of them. Tesco has classified food according to number and hanged it on top to make it visible and easier for customer to look for what they want. It helps to save time.

There are three different things  that I have learnt about Taylor’s Graduate Capabilities in this trip to Tesco which are Interpersonal skill, communication skill and also digital literacy. Interpersonal skill are the life skills we use every day to communicate and interact with other people. Working with others in a team is not an easy task because we have to understand the team dynamics and work with others in team. For example, when my group member have opinion towards thing I do, I accept it and not fight back because I respect them. Besides that, Communication is the process of transferring signal or messages between a sender and a receiver through various methods. Thus, it is important for us communicate appropriately in various setting and modes in order to have a good communication skill so that any miscommunication can be avoided. For instant, my group member and I will discuss before we divide the work so we know  who will do which question for what subject. This will help to avoid any confusion and we can work it together more efficiently. In addition, digital literacy is one of the thing that I have learnt during the visit to Tesco. In this modernized world, the use of Information and communication Technology (ICT) and related technologies are crucial as it helps to improve its efficiency and effectiveness of Tesco company at all levels. For example, all of the security guard have a walkie-talkie which allows them to talk to other security guard. They also have security camera all over the places to surveillance what’s happening inside Tesco.

I have learnt a lot of things while carrying out this project with my group member and I believe that it will help me in my future. In my group, there are different races of people and they do not understand Chinese so that I would have to use English to communicate with them and also speaking English to people who work in Tesco to get detail from them to work on my project. Through this project, I can speak English more fluently compared to last time. Nowadays English has become more important as it is one of the international languages that are used to communicate to people from other country. On the other hand, I have improved my interpersonal skill such as accepting other’s opinion and being patient enough to explain to my group member. Teamwork shows it all as we carry out the project together as a group instead of individual. We work together and discuss it together to get the right answer and of course pointing out each other’s mistake. It has proven that digital literacy is important is not only business field but in other field too. For example, I would suggest to the company that I might work in future to apply the use of digital literacy into the business as they can now use their phone to check out what is the security camera showing. You need not to stay in the computer room to check out what’s happening right now.
